Death of a constable in a road mishap prompts DGP to issue the directive.
Following the death of a constable in a road accident last evening,UP DGP Headquarters today issued a directive to all circle officers,station officers,SHOs and traffic inspectors across the state to ensure slapping of challan on policemen who are found driving two-wheelers without wearing a helmet.
The DGP Headquarters has also sent a circular to all zonal IGs,range DIGs and SPs for immediate compliance of the order in their jurisdictions.
Inspector General of Law & Order R K Vishwakarma,who issued the circular on behalf of the DGP,said that a constable,who was posted at Khajni police station in Gorakhpur district,was killed in a road accident in Sarai Lakhansi police station area of Mau district last evening. The constable,who was driving a motorcycle,did not wear a helmet and died from head injuries.
Mau SP Dinesh Chandra Dubey said that constable Ashutosh Kumar Pandey (26) was on his way to his native place in Ballia district. While driving rashly he took a turn on Ballia Road when his motorcycle skidded and he was thrown towards the railing of a bridge. He suffered head injuries and died on the spot,he added.
SO of Khajni police station Shiv Bachan Singh Yadav said that Ashutosh Pandey was deployed on patrolling duty in the area when he left for his native place without intimating him or the police station. He was recruited in 2011 and belonged to Pandeypurwa village in Dubahar police station area of Ballia district,said Yadav.
Vishwakarma said that taking serious note of the constables death,the DGP and the ADG (Law and Order) held a meeting at the headquarters where it noted that constables,head constables and the sub-inspectors are often seen driving two-wheelers without wearing helmets.
In order to ensure that all policemen wear helmets while driving,the DGP issued the directive for all COs,SHOs,SOs and traffic inspectors to initiate penal action and slap challan on policemen found without helmets when driving,said the IG.
