The purpose of these meetings is to discuss about the revamping of the organisation as well as the strategy to be adopted for the 2012 Assembly polls. AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi has already stated that the state Assembly elections are high on his agenda.

For the first time in all the meetings held in Lucknow, the absentees have been asked to inform the party office about the reason behind their absence.

Learning a lesson from the past, the first thing that was decided in the meeting was that the party would not delay in announcing its candidate for Lucknow West.

“While we have decided to dedicate the next one month for reorganisation, the candidate is likely to be declared soon after that. The process of selection will be going on side by side,” said Joshi.

It was also decided that a separate “Election Management Body” would be formed for Lucknow West Assembly segment comprising former legislators and senior UPCC leaders residing in Lucknow.

A similar structure will be adopted in other Assembly segments as well. “During the by-election,each leader will be given the responsibility of one polling station. Later on,they will be given the responsibility of the Assembly segment where they reside,” said a senior party leader.

It was also decided that all frontal organisations will work in tandem with the party. In future, the ward and block level committee meetings will also be attended by Youth Congress and National Students Union of India members.

Similar meetings have been scheduled for the coming two days for the remaining Assembly seats in Lucknow and all these meetings would be chaired by the state party president.
