Perform or perish the message is loud and clear for the office bearers who were recently selected to the state Youth Congress. In probation for three months,if they fail to perform, they will have to make place for others.
According to sources in the party, the decision has been taken after discussions between the state Youth Congress leaders and the Central leadership. Presidents of the four zones of state Youth Congress have been camping in Delhi for last four days. AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi is also taking an active interest in these discussions.
The organisational structure of the state Youth Congress is likely to be finalised in the next few days. From the 200-odd people who had participated in the talent hunt held last month, about 40 names have been short-listed.
Each of those selected will be assigned a task and their names are being discussed separately. Tasks are being assigned to each of them as per their ability and interest, said Pankaj Tiwari, president of the central zone of the Youth Congress. After a long discussion,we have come to the conclusion that each of the selected office bearers will be given 90 days time to prove themselves. Otherwise, they will be replaced by those who are in waiting, he added.
We have been told that the Youth Congress will play an important role in partys strategy to regain its ground in the Assembly elections. These people could well be tested in the Assembly by-elections that are likely to take place within two to three months. Moreover, setting up targets will also make them accountable, said a Youth Congress leader.
Earlier, the district committees were to be finalised simultaneously with the state body. But now, following recommendation by the zonal presidents to form committees at the district level,at present, only the state body of the youth wing will be finalised.
