The Gorakhpur police on Wednesday attached the property of an alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative,Mirza Shadab Baig,belonging to Azamgarh who is wanted in the case of serial blasts which took place in Gorakhpur in 2007,injuring six persons.
Baigs house is located in Azamgarhs Kot Sahab Ka Kila locality under Kotwali police circle. Baig has been on the run since IM came to light in September 2008 for triggering off blasts across the country and carries a reward of Rs 1 lakh,announced by Delhi police. He is also wanted in cases of serial blasts in Delhi,Jaipur,Ahmedabad and UP.
The Gorakhpur police,which is probing the 2007 serial blast,had obtained court order for attaching Baigs property in last month. On Wednesday,two police officers,including sub-inspector Rajeev Singh,who is attached with Cant police station in Gorakhpur,went to Azamgarh. After taking police force of Azamgarhs Kotwali police station,they went to Baigs house.
Sub inspector Rajeev Singh said the process of attaching the property was done smoothly. At the house,except Baigs mother Rahat Jahan no other person was present, he said. After attaching the property,which included an air cooler,a washing machine and other households goods,the police took it to Azamgarhs Kotwali police station on a mini-truck. Inspector Isha Khan of Kotwali police station said that all households articles attached by the Gorakhpur police were kept in the police station.
Baig is also wanted for blasts which took place in the courts of Lucknow,Varanasi and Faizabad on November 23,2007.
The Delhi police is looking for him in the cases of blasts at Sarojini Nagar market on October 29,2005 and at five different places on September 13,2008.
In Gorakhpur,three blasts occurred at different places on May 22,2009. During investigation the police found the blasts were allegedly triggered by IM and HuJI men. The Gorkhpur police booked alleged HuJI operative Tariq Qasmi and also filed chargesheet against him. Tariq,also a native of Azamgarh,is also facing trial in UP court blast cases and is presently in jail.
