Giving details of the attack, police said the constable was waiting at a railway crossing in Gomti Nagar area when a youth walked up to him and fired at him from close range.

The Lucknow police has begun its probe into the land dispute over which a police constable faced a near-fatal attack in Gomti Nagar police station area late Wednesday evening.

Constable Pramod Kumar (30), who was attached with the security of a high court judge, was shot at by a youth when he was returning from the judge’s residence in Gautam Palli area around 9 pm Wednesday. According to Lucknow SSP Rajesh Kumar Pandey, the police have learnt about the two plots that the constable had purchased in Mohanlalganj and Indira Nagar areas in the recent months.

There is reportedly a dispute over the plots’ ownership, police said, adding that only the constable could give information on the people who attacked him and his wife, who is pregnant, is not aware of the development regarding the attack on her husband.
