The Lucknow police has begun its probe into the land dispute over which a police constable faced a near-fatal attack in Gomti Nagar police station area late Wednesday evening.
There is reportedly a dispute over the plots’ ownership, police said, adding that only the constable could give information on the people who attacked him and his wife, who is pregnant, is not aware of the development regarding the attack on her husband.
The police are, meanwhile, collecting details about the disputed property.
Giving details of the attack, Station Officer of the Gomti Nagar police station, Shyam Babu Shukla said Pramod was waiting at a railway crossing in Gomti Nagar area when a youth walked up to him and fired at him from close range. The constable suffered a bullet injury below his neck and collapsed on the road. His attacker then grabbed the constable’s pistol and fled with his associate who was waiting on a motorcycle nearby, the SO added.
He said local residents rushed the constable to the hospital and informed the police. Pramod is undergoing treatment at KGMU’s Trauma Centre and, according to the doctors there, his condition is stable.
DIG, Lucknow range, D K Chaudhary said the police are trying to find out whether some dispute related to the land could be the motive behind the attack. Police have collected the CCTV footage and were trying to identify the assailant, he added.
