For the second time, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has failed to meet the deadline set for the completion of the data collection for Census 2011.
The Mapping Department,Directorate of Census, under the Union Home Ministry, will hold a meeting on Wednesday to decide the course of action in the wake of the LMC failing to complete the task on time. Data collection work started in January, but could not be completed on target in March,as the LMC officials were busy with election work.
The civic body asked for a three-month extension of the deadline. Around 220 LMC officials were deputed for the task of data collection in 110 wards.
As part of the data collection, the civic body had to collect details related to the number of residents in each house, the name of the house owner, the number of storeys in each house and whether the house is kuchcha or pucca.
Once we get the progress report of the work from the civic body,we will hold a review meeting on Wednesday and assess the extent of work left to be completed. The deadline will not be extended this time and we will decide what action needs to be taken, said Pradeep Kumar,Deputy Director,Mapping Department,Directorate of Census.
Senior LMC officials admitted that the job of data collection was not yet complete.
There are certain areas in the city from where data still needs to be collected. We expect the work to be complete by next month, said A C Sinha,Additional Municipal Commissioner,LMC.
A letter was written earlier this month to the zonal officers concerned to speed up work and complete the task in order to meet the deadline.
The data collection process has been delayed mainly because civic or municipal work has kept us busy, said a senior LMC official.
