Eleven days after a mob went on the rampage in Lucknow in protest against the alleged atrocities against Muslims in Assam and Myanmar,two persons were arrested in connection with the vandalism.

After the Friday afternoon prayers on August 17,protesters attacked journalists,damaged vehicles and vandalised two parks while marching from Tilewali masjid in Old City to Vidhan Sabha.

Vakil Ahmed,25,a resident of Hasanganj area,and Mohammed Amir Bakhsh,32,a resident of Madiaon area,from Daliganj area of Chowk police station area were arrested on Monday morning.

Police said Ahmed runs a mobile shop in Naka area while Bakhsh is a property dealer. They were identified with the help of photographs taken by press photographers during the violence.

Police have also seized two motorbikes belonging to Ahmed and Bakhsh,which they were riding while participating in the rampage.

Chowk Inspector I P Singh said the arrested persons had been sent to jail. They told the police that they were part of the mob,which emerged from Tilewali Masjid,but did not reveal if they were incited by someone,he said.

Last week,the Allahabad High Court asked the government to submit an affidavit by August 29,detailing the action it had taken against the perpetrators of August 17 violence.
