Three siblings, all minors, were found murdered on Wednesday morning while their fathers body bearing injury marks on head had been recovered on Tuesday night from Robertsganj area of Sonbhadra district.
Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police (SP) Ram Bahadur claimed that 32-year-old Babulal committed suicide by throwing himself before a speeding vehicle after killing his children in a fit of anger following an altercation with his wife. Babulal was reportedly in an inebriated condition when he took the step.
The bodies of the children were recovered about 50 metres away from the spot where their father was found dead, confirmed the SP.
When enquired if there was any eyewitness to Babulal being killed in an accident, the SP claimed that the theory about Babulal ending his life after killing his children is based upon the circumstances and the statements of his wife and the locals. The SP said that they may investigate the circumstances leading to the deaths if Babulals post-mortem examination report ruled out death caused in a road accident.
Meanwhile, the SHO of Robertsganj police station,D P Shukla, also said there was no reason to investigate the matter as Babulal died in an accident while the children were killed by him before he died.
The SP and the SHO both confirmed that Babulal had an altercation with his wife Leelawati two days ago. Babulal had alleged that Leelawati was involved in an extra-marital affair with her brother-in-law.
The SHO said Babulal was also manhandled and threatened by his brother-in-law over the issue.
Shukla said he had received an information around 9 pm on Tuesday about the body of a man lying on the road. He reached there to find Babulals body with injuries on one side of his head, which indicated that some heavy vehicle had crushed him. There was no other injury mark on his body,he claimed.
Later,Leelawati told the police that her husband left the house around 8 pm in an inebriated condition. He had taken their children Manisha (4),Anamika (2) and Manish (1) with him.
The police searched for the children last night, but could not trace them, added Shukla. The locals informed the police at 5.30 am today about the bodies of three children lying in a pit near a canal. The SHO claimed the children were smothered to death.
