Ruling Bahujan Samaj Party on Saturday suspended one more MLA Yogesh Verma, who represents Meeruts Hastinapur seat (reserved) in the state assembly on disciplinary grounds. The party has also charged Verma with not only ignoring the people of his constituency, but also exploiting them. The BSP had already dropped his name from its candidates list a few weeks ago.
On Friday,Verma had blamed the BSP for banning his entry into his constituency following denial of party ticket to him. The party has asked me not to visit my constituency. Voters come to my house and request me to visit them. I had just shared my problems with local media, Verma told The Sunday Express after his suspension. Verma also blamed the Rajya Sabha member Munkad Ali for the denial of the party ticket to him. However, the BSP has denied the allegations against Munkad, who is BSP coordinator in Western UP.
According to Verma, the BSP had communicated the denial of party ticket to him on September 24. On September 29,the party announced Prashant Gautam as BSP nominee for Hastinapur seat, Verma recalled.
In a press release, BSPs state unit president Swami Prasad Maurya said Verma has been suspended from the party on the order of Chief Minister and BSP national president Mayawati. He added Verma would not be allowed to attend any party programme in future.
According to Maurya,at the time of joining the BSP,Verma had told them that he was falsely implicated in criminal cases and had assured of good conduct. Maurya,in the press release, further stated that BSP workers had kept on complaining against Vermas anti-social conduct. Besides,he ignored the people of his constituency and also exploited them,Maurya added.
Maurya claimed Verma has a long criminal history. According to the release,on November 2,2009,a woman Laxmi Bansal was killed and subsequently, there was an attempt to take away her properties. The release said Vermas close associates were found to be involved in this incident of dacoity and murder during the police investigation.
The release also added an FIR has been lodged against Vermas brother Rajan Verma on Friday on the charge of issuing threats to one Nikunj Bansal. The police are investigating the matter, the release added. Maurya further said the complainant has also alleged the MLAs role in this matter.
Fearing police action,Verma has started making baseless allegations against the BSP,Maurya added.
Maurya said the party had decided to deny ticket to Verma in view of the complaints against him and had informed him about it. Referring to Vermas allegations,he said Munkad had no role in the partys decision to deny ticket to Verma.
However,Verma claimed there was no criminal case lodged against him. A Dalit Swabhiman Mahapanchayat would be held in my constituency on October 13. My supporters would decide on my political fate. If they want me as a candidate,I would remain in the fray, Verma told The Sunday Express.
