Close on the heels of the kidnap-cum-murder murder of Pawan Kumar Kashyap, the mysterious death of 15-year-old Mohit Awasthi has taken the local police by surprise.
A Class VII student of Sardar Patel Inter College,Mohit went missing on Wednesday morning. The next day,his body was found in the Dabouli West Canal. He was found in his undergarments and there was no sign of his other clothes. While the body has been taken for a postmortem, the Govind Nagar police suspect that Mohit was not kidnapped.
A resident of 716 Gujjaini,Mohit left home to attend coaching class in the adjoining Govind Nagar area on Wednesday. He was expected to return by afternoon. When he did not return in the evening,we started looking for him, said Rama Shankar Awasthi,Mohits father. On Thursday morning,Rama Shankar received information about the recovery of a minors body. We were shocked to find him dead, he said. Rama Shankar denied receiving any ransom call after Mohit went missing. I do not have any personal or professional rivalry with any individual, he said.
Govind Nagar Circle Officer Prashant Kumar said: Prima facie it appears that the minor has died in a mishap and the possibilities of a kidnapping-cum-murder are minimal. Rama Shankar is a driver, who barely earns enough to manage his family expenses. Therefore,we do not believe that the minor was kidnapped for ransom. No injury marks were found on the body. No FIR has yet been registered by the family. We are waiting for the postmortem report, he said.
