Ruling out the possibility of forming any other alliance in the state, former Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Saturday announced at the National Democratic Alliance rally in Kanpur the BJP will contest the 2012 Assembly elections in the state in alliance with the Janata Dal (United).

Singh said the overwhelming response to the NDA in Bihar Assembly elections has motivated the BJP to maintain the same plan in Uttar Pradesh.

“Of the 102 seats on which the BJP candidates contested in Bihar, the party won 91 seats and it clearly reflects the mood swing in NDA’a favour,” he added.

Singh along with other prominent BJP leaders including Parliamentarian Lalji Tandon, senior party leader Kalraj Mishra, party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, state president Surya Pratap Shahi and state president,Janata Dal (United),Suresh Nirjanjan attended the Mahasangram Rally of NDA at Phoolbagh ground on Sunday.

Targeting the BSP government,Singh said law and order did not exist in the state. “While BSP legislators and party members are being repeatedly named in criminal cases, the state government is more concerned about collecting more funds for the party,” he added.

He said in BJP-ruled states, crime rate has come down and benefits are given to the poor. BJP vice-president Naqvi criticised the BSP government for corruption and crime in the state. He said the Assembly elections in the state in 2012 are an opportunity for BJP to comeback to power with full majority.

Advani,Yadav miss the rally

* The much-hyped Mahasangram Rally of the NDA at Kanpur turned out to be a damp squib as senior leaders including Lal Krishna Advani,Sharad Yadav,Murli Manohar Joshi and MPs Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena and Balvinder Singh Bhullar of Akali Dal could not reach the venue. The helicopter in which the leaders were boarded could not land at Kanpur due to “poor visibility” and the leaders were forced to land at Amausi airport in Lucknow. While poor visibility was cited as the reason for the leaders’ failure to reach the venue of the rally, sources said the leaders did not wish to go to Kanpur as the crowd turnout at the rally was poor. Advani and Yadav while addressing the media persons at the Lucknow airport said the corruption was at peak both at the Centre and at state-level and the BJP will continue to campaign against these issues. On the issue of JPC probe in 2G Spectrum scam,Advani said the party is waiting for the all-party meeting on February 8.
