Murder case against cops for death in custody

A murder case was registered on Monday against two sub-inspectors (SIs) and four other policemen following the death of a rape accused in police custody in Firozabad district on Sunday.

A murder case was registered on Monday against two sub-inspectors (SIs) and four other policemen following the death of a rape accused in police custody in Firozabad district on Sunday. All of them have been suspended.

Firozabad Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said that Kalpi police station of Jalaun district had asked them to arrest Anil Kumar (43) of Jain Nagar locality in Uttar police station area,who was wanted in a case of alleged abduction and rape of a girl. The case was registered at Kalpi police station and the victim had accused Anil of abduction and rape in her statement recorded before the magistrate,the SP confirmed.

He said that SI Surendra Singh of Uttar police station was directed to arrest the accused and hand him over to Kalpi police yesterday. The accused was caught and was brought to the police station. While officers from the Kalpi police station were yet to arrive,Anil’s condition suddenly deteriorated and he started vomiting at around 9 pm. He was rushed to the district hospital from where he was referred to Agra’s medical college,but he died on the way,Singh added.

He said that Anil’s nephew Rahul today filed a complaint alleging that his uncle was tortured in police custody which led to his death.

A murder case was registered against SIs Surendra Singh and Pramod Kumar,head constable KK Gautam and three unidentified policemen on Rahul’s complaint.
