The Naxals who were arrested in Bihar recently have told the interrogators of having built a strong base of the banned outfit in various districts of Uttar Pradesh over last two years.
The central committee member of the Communist Party of India (Maoists),V Subhramaniam,and the North Bihar head of the organisation,Abhimanyu,are undergoing interrogation in police custody remand for last two weeks in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. They were arrested in Katihar district of Bihar along with five others on May 1.
Subhramaniam,who carried a reward of Rs 12 lakh on his head,had shifted his base to Meerut in November last year.
According to IG (Operations) of Bihar police,KS Dwivedi,Abhimanyu has told the officials the banned group has developed a strong base in UP including remote villages of Bundelkhand and central UP. Abhimanyu heads the Maoist outfit of North Bihar which also has jurisdiction over its activities in UP,Uttarakhand,Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand besides the districts of North Bihar,he said.
Moreover,Subhramaniam has also confirmed to the officials that core members of the Maoist group active in UP used to visit him in Meerut and attend all the meetings held in Bihar,Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh.
Dwivedi said the police teams from Andhra Pradesh,Chhatisgarh,Uttarakhand and Jharkhand have been camping in Bhagalpur for last one week and were interrogating the arrested Maoists. However,the IG said,the UP police have not made any initiative to visit here for interrogation or to seek information about the details collected from the accused regarding Maoist activities in the state. UP special DG (Law and Order),Brij Lal could not be contacted for his comments on the matter.
