The BSP-supported candidates were elected chairman in nine of the 10 block development committees in Kanpur in Wednesday’s elections. BJP-backed Anuradha Awasthi,who won in Kalyanpur,was the only winner from the opposition parties. While six BSP-backed candidates were elected unopposed,three others won by convincing margins. District Magistrate Mukesh Kumar Meshram said: “Barring one complaint in Kalyanpur,no other issue was brought to my knowledge.” The BSP members had complained about some anomalies in the counting of votes in Kalyanpur,but “the returning officer found the complaint baseless,” he added.
