RJD members join Jan Morcha

Giving a jolt to the new alliance of Mulayam Singh Yadav,Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan, the members of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Uttar Pradesh, joined the Jan Morcha on Wednesday.

Led by their state president and former MP Kailash Nath Singh, the members have faxed their resignation to RJD president Lalu Prasad. Addressing mediapersons,Nath said: “Earlier, the leaders of the Fourth Front including Lalu Prasad,SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan wanted this alliance only for the Lok Sabha elections.”

“Later, they agreed to continue even for the Assembly elections. The reason is evident — none of them has the potential of becoming the Prime Minister. Therefore, they are working to secure their place as chief ministers.

Why should RJD members waste their efforts and energy for these leaders?” he added. Nath was accompanied by Ajeya Singh — the son of former Prime Minister V P Singh — who is contesting from Fatehpur under the Jan Morcha banner.

Nath also blamed Lalu Prasad for diverting from his ideology. “The party was always in favour of small states and we had been raising the issue of Poorvachal and Bundelkhand,” he said.

“But now,Lalu has agreed to go with the SP which was never in favour of small states,” he added.

Nath added that Lalu Prasad used to criticise the SP for playing family politics and had called it a party of capitalists. Now,he is sharing the platform with the same party,he said. Ajeya Singh said the Fourth Front leaders had cheated him. “First, they asked me to contest under the UPA banner, since at that time they were a part of the UPA. After severing ties with the UPA,Paswan asked me to merge my party with SP and contest as a joint candidate.”

“Eventually, when SP wanted to field its own candidate in my place, they asked me to withdraw my candidature. Thank God,I did not sign a letter of merger,” he added.
