Robbers make off with ATM machine

Unidentified persons managed to escape with an ATM machine installed barely a fortnight ago in Allapur locality under George Town area of the city here late on Friday night.

Unidentified persons managed to escape with an ATM machine installed barely a fortnight ago in Allapur locality under George Town area of the city here late on Friday night. The police have not ruled out insider involvement in the incident,which took place barely 50 metre from a police post.

According to police,the incident came to light this morning when people in the area realised the machine,belonging to the United Bank,had gone missing from the enclosure. Preliminary investigations have revealed the bank employees had deposited Rs 10 lakh cash in the machine on Friday afternoon.

The ATM,installed nearly a fortnight ago,was yet to be equipped with CCTV camera and reportedly no security guard was deployed. Located in between two shops,the ATM was also said to have become a happy haunt for a few,who wanted to take advantage of the air-conditioners installed inside.
