The investigations into the ‘bomb’ that was found in the toilet of Delhi-bound Sampark Kranti Express last week have convinced the Uttar Pradesh ATS that it was a work of a novice,as it could not have exploded on its own.

According to the UP ATS,the red-coloured packet that was discovered by a passenger when the train reached Mahoba on April 14 consisted of some gelatine rods and explosive but had no detonator.

ATS DIG Rajiv Sabbarwal said it was the job of somebody who had no knowledge of assembling a bomb.

The DIG said the explosives and two gelatine rods were packed separately in a red paper. A mesh of wires gave the look of an electrical circuit but they were not connected to the 0.9 volt battery which was inside the packet.

A few passengers who had used the particular toilet of the S-2 coach before the train reached Mahoba said they had not seen the ‘bomb’.

Apparently, someone placed it in the toilet just before the train reached Mahoba, said ATS.

The ‘bomb’ was seized by the GRP and later the Bomb Disposal Squad carried out its controlled detonation.
