A sub-divisional magistrate of Mathura district made an attempt to commit suicide by shooting himself with his licenced revolver at his Officers Colony flat in Civil Lines area on Saturday.
The SDM of the Maat area,Rajeev Gupta (46),a native of Muzaffarnagar,had a gunshot wound in his right temple and is admitted in the Kamayani Hospital in Agra city,said police.
The Mathura SSP,BD Paulson said a suicide note was found from the spot,but it did not contain any reason behind the official taking the step. The note addressed to him (the SSP) stated that he was ending his life on his own and no probe was required to ascertain the motive,the SSP said.
He said Gupta also requested the SSP that his body should be handed over to his family members
without getting the postmortem conducted if it was not compulsory.
Paulson said the servant at Guptas house told the police that he had visited a temple in the morning and was last seen sitting in a chair in his room. The servant who heard the gunshot and rushed to the place found him lying in a pool of blood.
The SSP and other officials who rushed to the place saw SDMs licenced revolver in his hand. The SSP said that the SDM has been operated upon,but his condition is stated to be critical. Guptas family members,staying in Noida,reached Agra in the noon,Paulson added.
