As the deadline for evaluation of answersheets for the state Board examination passed on Tuesday, over five lakh answersheets of Class X and XII still remain unchecked a large number of which are from the state capital. Usually, the results are announced by May-end.
According to sources, evaluation has been delayed as many teachers are on election duty.
Moreover, several had stayed away from evaluation work due to inadequate incentive. This even after orders were issued to withhold salary of evaluators who remained absent without notice.
Senior Board officials, however, claimed they will ensure that results come out on time. We are trying our level best to manage the situation. Earlier, teachers were deployed on election duty. But now they have started visiting evaluation centres. We are trying to get evaluators from districts where work has been completed, said Prapha Tripathi,Secretary of UP Secondary Education Board. In Lucknow, the Education department has issued showcause notices to 80 teachers for remaining absent on evaluation duty and has withheld their salaries.
At the evaluation centre at Jai Narayan Inter College, over one lakh answersheets remained unchecked on Tuesday. Prinicipal Rajesh Dubey said,Around 52,000 answersheets of English-I high school paper and 60,000 copies of physics are still unchecked.
He added that while only 75 out 314 evaluators allotted for physics have turned up,among the 304 evaluators for English, only 105 have reported to duty.
After trying all means,I have been able to get around 10,000 English and 5,000 physics answersheets checked in a day. This way,it will take at least another five days to get the entire evaluation work completed, Dubey said.
As per rules, each examiner is expected to check around 45 copies a day. For every high school copy, one gets Rs 4 and for an intermediate copy,an evaluator gets Rs 5.50. Many examiners, however, are now evaluating over 80 to 90 answersheets daily.
This is simply torture. But they withheld our salaries, said an examiners.
At Queens Inter College, around 20,000 Hindi and 18,000 chemistry answersheets are still unchecked. At Aminabad Inter College, around 24,000 answersheets of home science remain unchecked.
To draw more evaluator invigilators, the centre in-charge had relaxed the qualifications, but to no avail.
