The UP government is preparing to open the 165-km Yamuna Expressway, connecting Greater Noida to Agra,on August 9. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is likely to inaugurate it through video-conferencing from his residence in Lucknow.
We have been asked to start the preparations. The toll rates will be notified soon according to the prevailing rates of the National Highway Authority of India, said a senior government officer.
The developer, which has been waiting for the inauguration for the past few months, has already started the preparations.
We have been told that the inauguration will be done by the Chief Minister on August 9,thus we are busy giving the final touches. CCTV cameras are being installed, signboards are also being put in place, informed an official of the Jaypee group.
Sources in the government said the group had agreed to the opening of the expressway without charging toll on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway for the time being a clause that was part of their initial concession agreement.
The Expressway would open with toll gates at three places only. For the time being, there will be no toll on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway. We are only awaiting notification of toll rates by the government now, said a senior officer.
While the Jaypee Group had been requesting for early inauguration of the project for the past few months, the Samajwadi Party government had said the expressway could not be regarded as complete until amenities, like food joints, medical facilities, lighting and a green belt, were developed along the expressway.
Officials of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority are yet to do the final inspection of these amenities, but officials of the Jaypee Group said everything was in place now.
