Beginning next week,far-off candidates enrolled under the distance learning programmes of the Panjab University (PU) will not have to worry about attending the on-campus classes. Starting with mobile or e-learning classes, the PU will make an attempt to reach out to them through the nearest accessible point.
To be introduced with the diploma programme in statistics at the University School of Open Learning (USOL),PU will teach the students from a mobile van with the help of the latest technology. The programme, spanned over a period of one week, will teach a batch of 23 students at the Ludhiana Regional Centre.
The students will not only be able to take online classes but also get online answers to their queries. The subject expert responsible for the lectures will be stationed at the PU campus. We are introducing this advanced concept for one subject at one centre. Later, similar programmes will be introduced at different locations with various other subjects, said Professor Ravi K Mahajan subject expert of statistics and the programme coordinator.
The PU authorities also expect that the students will be able to connect with the experts through their own laptops and have direct one-to-one interactions. The option of teleconference will also be available for the students. The mobile van will be equipped with the latest technology, with screens and wi-fi connection.
The students of distance learning¿ enrolled under different course ¿ are given the facility to attend on-campus classes for a week. But due to accessibility and time constraints, only a few attend the classes.
