CAG questions civic body over ‘extra’ perks given to three officers

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG),in a report,has questioned Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) for providing 'an unauthorised car,fuel and drivers to three officers who were not meant to use the facility'.

The three officers have been identified as Vijay Danav,chairman of Dalit Vikas Board; Raj Kumar,chairman and D P Khosla,vice-chairman of Safai Karamchari Bhalai Board.

The officers were reportedly ‘using more than 216 litres of fuel per month’. The CAG has sought a detailed report on the issue from LMC.

As per sources,Raj Kumar and Vijay Danav have one SUV each while Khosla has an Ambassador.

Meanwhile,the LMC stated that ‘various letters were written to local bodies in Chandigarh to know the exact status of the officers and if they were to get car facility or not,but LMC never got a response’.

“We sent many letters asking for clear stand but Chandigarh headquarters never replied back,” MC commissioner R K Verma told The Indian Express.

Meanwhile,Vijay Danav,said: “The boards were formed under guidance of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy (Sukhbir Badal) appointed us and sanctioned car facility with fuel expenses as per the rules.”
