DC issues orders to control fake licence numbers

In order to control highway robbery incidents,Deputy Commissioner,Rahul Tiwari,has issued special instructions to the makers of number plates. In an order passed,on Wednesday,the DC stated,“All those who are indulged in the making of number plates must check the copy of Registration Certificate (RC) before starting work. They should also keep a photocopy of the RC with them for record purposes. Due action under section 144 will be taken against the painters if they fail to adhere to these norms.”

DC added,“The idea is not to punish the painters,but to make them understand that they have a responsibility before undertaking any work. Duplicate number plate of my vehicle were made at one of these shops. I took swift action,but it shows that anyone can be a victim.”

Tiwari said,“For the time being we will be asking the number plate makers to adhere to this order. We will be raiding the shops and check whether they are keeping the photo copies of the RCs with them or not.”

It needs to be mentioned that in the recent past,fake number of Fazilka based resident’s vehicle was found on the car carrying RDX near Ambala. The Fazilka resident had to run from pillar to post to show his original documents to prove himself innocent. A number of fake number plates have also come into notice of police in many highway robberies in Ludhiana.

“Looking at the seriousness of the issue,the instructions have been issued for the first time,” added DC.
