Factory employees protest, police use lathicharge

The labourers vandalised machines, computers and vehicles in the factory.

The employees of Gobind Rubber factory, Kanganwal, indulged in violence on the factory premises late on Saturday evening. They were protesting against their employers but the situation turned so tense that cops from almost six police stations were called to control the violence. The police resorted to minor lathicharge to control them.

The labourers vandalised machines, computers and vehicles in the factory. They also tried to vandalise the vehicles of police. The Sahnewal police registered a case under sections 341, 323, 427 and 506 of the IPC against labourers following the statement of Nityanand, who is manager in the factory.

The factory manager informed the police following which cops from six police stations — division number 7, Sahnewal, Basti Jodhewal, Jamalpur, Focal Point and Moti Nagar — reached the spot.

Labourers Madan Lal and Vijay Kumar said that instead of accountant of the factory, another employee was distributing salaries among the labourers. The factory owner has not issued leave allowance. When the labourers raised the issues, the manager abused them.
