Focal Point robbery case cracked,3 held

The Ludhiana police received major success today after they were able to nab three people who were allegedly involved in the sensational Rs 17.5 lakh robbery case that took place on July 13 this year.

The Ludhiana police received major success today after they were able to nab three people who were allegedly involved in the sensational Rs 17.5 lakh robbery case that took place on July 13 this year. The police have also recovered the booty from the accused.

Addressing the media,DIG Dr S S Chauhan,who was flanked by SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill and other senior police officers,said: “We had constituted a special team to crack the case. The team was headed by S K Kalia SP (D) and comprised Snehdeep Shama SP City 2,SHO Focal Point Pardeep Sandhu,Gurpreet Singh Incharge CIA Staff 1 and Dilpreet Singh Incharge CIA Staff 2. During the investigation,we were able to nab Tejinder Singh alias Kuku,who is a resident of Shimlapuri,Kulwant Singh alias Laddi,a resident of Bathinda and Amarnath,who hails from Haridwar but is currently putting up at Ardas Nagar. We were able to recover Rs 12.5 lakh from Tejidner and Kulwant and the remaining Rs 5 lakh was seized from Amarnath,” added Dr Chauhan.

Tilak Raj,a supervisor at a local company,was robbed of Rs 17.5 lakh at gunpoint on July 13 by some unidentified men who fired in the air and later fled on a motorcycle along with the booty. The police have also recovered the motorcycle,which was used to commission the crime.

Chauhan added,”The accused have confessed to their crime. In July 2008,they had looted Rs 6 lakh from an employee of J G Government Technical College on Gill Road. A month later,the gang snatched a laptop from a resident of Model Town. In November 2008,they looted Rs 2.5 lakh from two residents of Gobindgarh. In February 2009,they snatched Rs 2 lakh at gunpoint from a resident of the city near Sufian Chowk,snatched Rs 9 lakh from two employees of Kusum Steel in April this year and were involved in other similar snatchings. The accused also had a country-made pistol.”

The DIG added: “The gang is of four people with the fourth one — Sonu Kalia — still absconding.”

Residents nab thieves

It was bad day for two thieves who were caught by residents before they could flee. The incident took place last night at Abdullahpur Basti. Bhupinder Singh,the owner of the house,said,”Around 3 am,our tenants living upstairs woke up when they heard someone trying to jump over the roof. A priest lives on the first floor and he was sleeping on the roof when the thief tried to crossover.” Singh added,”Seeing our tenants awake,the thief lied to them saying he was our guest and wanted to sleep on the roof as it was hot downstairs. But our tenants realised that he was not a member of our family. They caught him and raised an alarm. We all came upstairs and questioned the person. He told us that he lived in the back lane and he along with his friend had come to commit a theft.”The residents of the area were also able to nab the accomplice and recovered an expensive mobile from the room where the thieves lived. The thieves,along with the mobile phone,were handed over to the police and an FIR has been registered at Atam Park police station.

Giving details of the theft,Sru Gyan Sthal Mandir Sabha president Jagdish Bajaj said,”It was around 5 in the morning when the chief priest called me up and told me that all the golaks (safes where donations are kept) have been broken open and the cash was missing.”

Bajaj added,“I informed the police. We noticed that one of the doors of the temple that opens into the side lane had been broken.” When asked about the amount that the thieves had made way with,Bajaj added: “It is very difficult to ascertain for we had not opened the donation boxes for almost two months now. But a rough estimate is Rs 50,000 or above.”
