The Gill Chowk flyover built at a cost of more than Rs 23 crore has been damaged twice at the tail-end in the last fortnight. This flyover was thrown open to the general public in May and within one-and-a-half months,it has been damaged twice, thus raising questions on the quality of the material used.
It was first damaged in the first week of July, after which patch work was done to repair it but after yesterdays rainfall, more than six-feet area of the flyover at the tail end has been damaged again.
The flyover, which will be connected to Partap Chowk flyover,is still under construction and is likely to get completed in another year.
The flyover was built by Deepak Builders and the contractor has not been questioned for the repeated damage till now.
The Municipal Commissioner had earlier stated that the tail-end was made on temporary basis because it is to be connected to the Partap Chowk flyover once it is ready.
The Partap Chowk flyover, however, will be ready in another year, yet again raising questions on why the tail end of the Gill Chowk flyover was made on a temporary basis. It was a bumpy ride for commuters on the flyover today.
Municipal Commissioner A K Sinha was not available for comment.
