‘IIM to focus on research’

Keeping in view the present scenario,the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow is taking new initiatives including the focus on research.

Keeping in view the present scenario,the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow is taking new initiatives including the focus on research. This was disclosed by Dr Devi Singh,Director,IIM Lucknow,while talking to Newsline on Saturday. He was in the city to attend the annual convocation of the Punjab College of Technical Education at Baddowal.

Dr Devi Singh,who is serving the prestigious institute for the second term,said,“I am trying to reposition certain things. There is a great focus on research. New initiatives in education are also being taken so that the course could be made more interesting and exciting.”

Comparing the business schools in the country with foreign schools,he said,“The Indian schools need to be upgraded as regards research. There are no incentives for PhD students. We have good infrastructure but we lag behind in expertise.”

Talking about the mushrooming of business schools in the country,he said,“Due to unavailability of good faculty,there is a dilution. There is a technical growth while the capacity requirement for professionalism does not exist.”

He said that there is nothing like recession in India but the country has been facing two major problems — food inflation and fiscal deficit.
