PAU gears up for Kisan Mela
The stage is all set at Punjab Agricultural University for the two-day kisan mela starting tomorrow. According to Dr Mukhtar Singh Gill,Director of Extension Education,the stalls by different departments of the university have been put up. Various firms are busy giving last-minute touches to their stalls to display their products in order to attract farmers. PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang will formally inaugurate the mela.
Scientists from Ohio varsity visit PAU
A team of scientists from the USA,currently on visit to the Punjab Agricultural University,discussed the issue concerning students internship with various heads of departments of PAU. Dr Pat R Whillington,Assistant Dean,for Students Development and Dr Thomas Shockey,Students Services Coordinator at College of Food,Agriculture and Environmental Science at Ohio State University (OSU),Columbus,USA gave presentation on Internship and discussed the details of the programme being followed at Ohio.
1,050 patients examined at medical camps
Jagriti,a non-governmental organisation,on Wednesday organised a free medical check-up camp at Tulsi Jain Dharamshala on Saanglaanwala Shiwala Road. Nearly 400 patients were examined by Dr Varinder Kumar and Dr Munish Katariya. The team of doctors also gave tips on good health. Meanwhile,Ma Bhagwati Club also organised a free dental check up and eye camp at Krishna Model School in Kidwai Nagar where 650 patients were examined.
22 parents awarded
Dr Kitchlu Branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad celebrated Nav-Samvatsar-2067 at Viklang Sahayta Kendra Rishi Nagar. On the occasion,five Kundiya Havan-Yagya was performed. The yagya was conducted by Roshan Lal Arya. The hawan was followed by a function,which was presided over by Ashok Kumar Gupta,BVP Prantya Convenor,Health Care. Nearly 22 parents were given away prizes under the literacy drive. These parents were taught by their children,who themselves study at Shaiwal High School,Panjpeer Road.
Prize distribution function at DMCH
Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) organised a prize distribution function on Wednesday to award winners of the recently held 45th annual athletic meet Smash-2010. The best athlete award in the male category was given to Puneet Singla while Pukhraj won in the female category. The overall trophy went to the batch of 2007. Vice-president of the DMCH Managing Society Amrit Nagpal gave away the prizes.
TB awareness week starts at DMCH today
The Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) will observe a TB awareness week from March 18 to March 24. The theme for this years World TB Day is On the move against Tuberculosis: Innovate to accelerate action.
Chartered accountants hold seminar
The local branch of Northern India Regional Council of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India organised a seminar on bank branch audit at the ICAI Bhawan,Pakhowal Road,on Wednesday. Guest of Honor Raman Aggarwal,DGM,Union Bank of India,appreciated the role of chartered accountants in the banking sector.
GADVASU professors book released
A book by Dalvir Singh Ludhianvi,titled Lok Man Manthan,was released by Dr V K Taneja,vice-chancellor,Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU),on Wednesday. Dr Prithipal Singh Sohi and Dr Kulwinder Kaur Minhas presented papers on the book.
Vet university don felicitated at Indian Veterinary Congress
Dr Hari Mohan Saxena,professor-cum-head of the Veterinary Microbiology department at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has been awarded the RRK Shukla Award of the Indian Association for Advancement of Veterinary Research (IAAVR) for his research contributions in immunology. The award,comprising a citation,memento and cash prize,was conferred on Dr Saxena at the 10th Indian Veterinary Congress held at Jabalpur recently.
