The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation that supposedly had a busy schedule on Wednesday, preferred to stay idle. While first it announced the cancellation of the demolition drive planned for Barewal,Zone-D,which was suppose to take place on Tuesday, later in the day it was learnt that the Ferozepur road service lane inspection, for which the demolition drive was cancelled, too did not take place.
However,to be precise, the MC failed to imply even one of the Punjab and Haryana High Court orders. While the HC had ordered the demolition of illegal buildings in the city,it had also directed MC officials to remove encroachments in service lanes on Ferozepur road.
Later, civic body officials claimed that some important paper work led to the delay. The inspection of Ferozepur road was meant not only to remove encroachments, but also to chalk out a plan for the project to widen the road. Meanwhile, the MC served notices to nine commercial establishments on Ferozepur road, asking them not to allow parking in the service lanes.
The civic body had, earlier, cancelled six demolition drives in Haibowal,Talaab Bazaar,Indira Nagar,Pavitar Nagar,Gur Mandi and Salem Tabri in March and April. On April 30,it was finally successful in carrying out the drive in Sabun Bazaar.
On Wednesday,Barewal demolition was put off on the pretext that building branch officials would be busy inspecting the service lanes.
Rajinder Sharma, assistant town planner,Zone D,told Ludhiana Newsline,Both the work will soon be completed. Due to some important paper work on Wednesday, the drive and inspection were not carried out.
