The decision to remove IAS officer Sumit Jarangal who was appointed to the post of commissioner,Zone A,has raised eyebrows, though the civic body claims this is “a routine decision”.

Kamlesh Bansal, who was earlier on this post,is making a comeback.

Jarangal’s wife Isha Kalia is also an IAS officer and had joined as the commissioner of zone D along with him in January this year.

Sources said while MC Commissioner RK Verma had a lot of expectations from the duo, their actions were proving to be futile to bring any practical change.

However,Verma said,“There is no special reason for this. This is a routine decision.”

Bansal is a senior official who apparently got an extension of one year after his retirement due next month. He is likely to get orders of his appointment as zonal commissioner on Monday.

“I have been given charge of zonal commissioner again and orders will reach me on Monday,” Bansal told Ludhiana Newsline.

Another senior officer from MC,however, cited overload of work on Jarangal for sudden development as he also takes care of roads and bridges (R&B),operations and maintenance (O&M),horticulture, streetlights and projects and the recently added department to his basket: health and sanitation.

“Whatever the reason maybe, removing an IAS officer from post of zonal commissioner and giving him other charges is something to be suspicious of. This decision was not actually expected,” said an MC official on condition of anonymity.
