The three-day 12th Punjab Science Congress will kick off at Punjab Agricultural University on February 7.
The chief patron of the Congress will be the PAU Vice-Chancellor,Dr Manjit Singh Kang,while Dr P.S.Minhas,Director of Research and Dr N.S.Malhi,Director of Extension Education,will be the patrons. Dr SK Mann,Dean,Postgraduate Studies,will be the Chairperson of the event. The Science Congress will be inaugurated on 7 February in the Pal Auditorium of PAU where Prof. Yash Pal,Chancellor,Jawahar Lal Nehru University and former Chairman,University Grants Commission will be the Chief Guest while Dr. Manjit Singh Kang,Vice-Chancellor,PAU will preside over.
The Convener,Dr. Tejwant Singh,Dean,College of Basic Sciences said that the theme of the Congress will be Science and Technology for Betterment of Society and that it is being organized under the aegis of Punjab Academy of Sciences,Patiala. He said that renowned scientists and academicians from various educational institutions and professional organisations involved in the development of scientific pursuits will converge to share common platform for scientific deliberations.
The Organising Secretary of the Congress,Dr. P.K.Khanna informed that the Congress will have five technical sessions: Agriculture,bio-sciences,bio-technology,etc.; Applied chemistry,applied physics,sugar technology,food technology and textile chemistry; Chemical,mathematical and physical sciences; Engineering sciences and Medical and veterinary sciences. He added that research papers by scientists from different institutes will be presented in these sessions. Dr Khanna said that a special session for the presentation of papers for the young scientist award will be held on February 8.
