While the clusters in south India are working seriously and bringing good results, the condition in Punjab is the contrary, said C K Mishra, joint secretary in the Ministry of Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Interacting with members of Offset Printers Association (OPA),he stated that in Punjab there are about 36-40 clusters in all which have been approved and all of them are till the soft intervention level only,ie upgradation of the machines, doing paper work for the clusters etc.
When it comes to shifting of industry at the land acquired by creating all facilities, not even a single cluster has been able to do this in Punjab,he pointed out. It needs to be mentioned that industrialists had stated a few days ago that in Punjab they are not being allowed to set up a cluster on less than 50 acres of land and acquiring this huge chunk is not possible for them.
They had requested Industry Minister Anil Joshi to reduce this condition to 10 acres only and many withheld cases of clusters will be actually seen in working order. Moreover, high prices of land are another reason for this delay.
Further talking about the subsidies being given to medium, small and micro enterprises,Mishra said,In the last financial year we had given a package of Rs 2,700 crore for subsidies to the MSME sector. Although this sector had availed of many schemes, they still need to be made aware of the schemes of the department so that maximum benefits can be taken.
The Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises joint secretary opined that there is a need for MSMEs to adopt new technology and stressed that the this industry should become more competitive.
Mishra was felicitated by Offset Printers Association President Parveen Aggarwal and OPA General Secretary Kamal Chopra. He met with various industrial association representatives in order to get their feedback about the schemes being run by the department.
