The sports department has increased its diet funding for sportsmen studying in college across the state, after taking inflation into account.
The funding for residential students has been increased from Rs 120 to Rs 200 a day while for day scholars from the existing Rs 60 it has been raised to Rs 100.
The charges however will be implemented from the next financial year because the approval had been given by the sports department few months back, said Deputy Director sports department S S Lotey.
He said,The last hike was done in year 2008 when the charges were only Rs 60 for the residential students while Rs 30 for the day scholars and they were increased to Rs 120 and Rs 60 respectively,so it is a second hike in the past 3 years. This will benefit about 3,000 regular players while another 3,000 players who play in various tournaments.
The players will be getting a rich diet from the coming financial year, claimed Lotey. He said that they get the diet from the co-operative mess where contract is given via tenders.
