Gadvasu : Kin of 15 students turn up for meeting
The Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has issued warning to nearly 13 students, including three girls.
Dr Simrat Sagar Singh,Dean,College of Veterinary Sciences, said,We have issued warning letters to those students who are leading the strike. If students do not resume classes despite this warning,we will rusticate them or put them on conduct probation.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the parents called by the GADVASU officials failed to evoke the response amongst the parents. It has been learnt that some 15 parents turned up for the meeting.
Dr Singh said,Although the response of parents was not overwhelming,we have informed them about the consequences of the strike as well as the action which the university could take against the erring students. The strike is the handiwork of some students who are either short on attendance or have failed. They want to pressurise the authorities to clear their back log and are using strike as the medium.
Three students Sandeep Bhullar,Mandeep Dhami and Baljinder Katrai who had started the strike have already withdrawn their agitation and gone back home, added Dr Singh. Dr Singh said,The NRI students have already distanced themselves from the strike and so have the senior students. The interns are regularly attending their work and postgraduate students, too, are regular with their classes, attending the clinics and carrying out the research work assigned to them.
Director of Students Welfare,Dr Kulbir Singh Sandhu, said a large number of undergraduates have already vacated hostels.
Teachers call off protest
After the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University authorties rolled back its order, the protesting teachers called off their 10-day old protest against contractual appointment of an ex-professor of animal breeding and genetics on the same post with an additional charge of university librarian. Dr H S Sandhu, president, said,Accepting the demand of teachers, the GADVASU administration withdrew the powers from the ex-professor and delegated the same to Dean College of Veterinary Science.
