22-yr-old man on the run after ‘raping’ minor girl

The police said the accused had been stalking the girl for the last couple of months.

The Mumbai police are on the lookout for a 22-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a minor girl in the central suburbs of Mumbai. The police said that the accused often followed her to school and even harassed her on the lanes near her house. However in March the accused allegedly pulled her inside his house and raped her.

According to police officials, the sexual assault took place between March 1 and March 15. “The accused is still on the run and we are trying to trace him. He is from the same location as the victim and stayed in her neighbourhood,” an officer said.

The police said the accused had been stalking her for the last couple of months. She revealed that he had often harassed her by following her to school and even passed comments as she walked in the lanes near her house.

“We have learnt that the accused had taken advantage of an area being dark, pulled her inside his house and sexually assaulted her,” an officer said.

The girl did not divulge her ordeal to anyone initially as he had threatened to harm her and her family members.

But later when she complained of a severe stomach ache, the girl was taken to hospital.

The doctors revealed that she was 10 weeks pregnant, following which the matter was reported to the police station. “We have registered a case of rape, molestation and criminal intimidation. We have learnt that the accused has escaped to Uttar Pradesh. We will arrest him soon,” an officer added.
