The Alliance Against Copyright Theft (AACT) will now target cable operators in its fight against piracy. After we set up the toll-free complaint number in July,we received many complaints about vendors selling pirated content but consumers never came forward with complaints about local cable operators showing new releases. We know that cable piracy is a problem which cannot be ignored. We are going to conduct special measures to combat this kind of piracy. Earlier our focus was on vendors selling pirated content. The efforts of our enforcement teams brought down sale of pirated content through roadside vendors by 30 per cent. Starting this November,we will start clamping down on local cable operators across the city also, a founding member of the AACT and vice president of Reliance Big Pictures,Sanjay Tondon, said.
Enforcement teams will be formed in parts of the city to record pirated movies being shown by cable operators. This may be used to initiate legal action against not only against the local cable operators but also multiple system operators who cover larger areas. The AACT plans to form such teams in Mumbai,Thane and Navi Mumbai. Based on their success we will be replicate the system in other parts of the country, added Tondon.
