Senior leaders say his stand smacks of political backing, reveals real face
Taking an aggressive stand against social activist Anna Hazare,Congress leaders on Saturday targeted him for his recent statement that he would campaign against the party in poll-bound states if his demand on the Lokpal bill was not met.
Addressing Congress women workers at Vile Parle in the city,Congress MPs and senior leaders of the party lashed out at Hazare saying his anti-Congress stand smacked of political backing and brought out Hazares real face in the open.
Addressing the function organised to guide women party workers in preparing for the civic polls,Congress MP Gurudas Kamat said Hazares recent stand had not only brought his real face before the people but also raised questions on the source of money for his anti-graft campaign.
Hazares stand against the Congress party and the Dussehra rally statements made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat of backing Hazare, raise doubts over political support for his movement, said Kamat and added that when morchas and dharnas were held outside MPs offices and residences during Hazares fast at Ramlila Maidan,Congress leaders could have retaliated with their own supporters but had not done so.
Speaking on the occasion,Union Minister of State for Housing Kumari Selja also took potshots at Hazare without naming him. She said some people call themselves social activists but it seems they are political activists.
Congress leaders also made light of the Shiv Senas Dussehra rally,an important annual event in the calendar of the Sena. They said that apart from mockery there was nothing else in the speeches made by Sena leaders. City unit chief of the Congress,Kripashankar Singh, said the Sena has no constructive or developmental works to talk about.
