The Maharashtra Navnirman Senas proposal to conduct tests for candidates who want the partys tickets for the upcoming local polls has received a strong response with over 1,400 applicants expected to attend a guidance session on Tuesday. Elections for the 227 civic seats in Mumbai are to be held in February along with other cities like Pune,Nashik,Thane and Nagpur.
The MNS had announced tests for its aspirants to check their IQ and knowledge of corporation working. The tests will be held on December 4 in all the cities. In Mumbai,the tests will be held in Ruparel College in Matunga and Parle Tilak College in Vile Parle.
A function has been organised on Tuesday for the 1,400 party workers who have registered for the tests.
Party workers have been asked to fill in nomination forms,collect information booklets and pay a deposit of Rs 1,000 to sit for the tests.
MNS shakha pramukhs said on an average the party had received about 25-30 applications in each of the 36 Vidhan Sabha constituencies. Each Vidhan Sabha constituency has either six or seven municipal wards.
According to Pravin Darekar,MLA from Magathane in Mumbais north district,over 90 per cent of the aspirants who collected the form returned it filled.
Similarly,MNS general secretary and senior leader Atul Sarpotdar,who is handling the Mumbai North-West Lok Sabha constituency,said he had received 400 applications for the 36 municipal wards in his region. We have got very good response in the area for the examination. Party workers are coming forward and collecting the forms. There were demands for extending the deadline but we had to conclude it, said Sarpotdar.
A party leader from Pune said they had received tremendous response to the call for applications for the tests and it had gone beyond expectations.
