In another accident involving a BEST bus,a three-year-old boy was crushed to death near his residence in Goregaon (East) late on Monday evening.
Dindoshi police said the victim,Nilesh Saroj,stayed at Ambawadi in Santosh Nagar area with his parents and younger brother.
Nilesh was walking near the Indira Gandhi Institute bus stop,when the bus that was on its way to the Dindoshi BEST depot knocked him down.
The bus was taking a U-turn to go towards the depot. The driver,Chotu Shaikh (38),did not notice the child and could not apply the brakes in time, said senior inspector Jaywant Mane.
The boy was crushed under the left front wheel of the bus,police said. Manisha and the BEST bus conductor,identified only as Jambhle,took Nilesh to Bhagwati Hospital in an auto rickshaw but he was declared brought dead.
The bus driver was nabbed by citizens and handed over to the Dindoshi police. Shaikh,a resident of Andheri,has been arrested under Indian Penal Code Section 304A (causing death due to negligence),the police said.

On September 23,the Parksite police arrested a BEST bus driver for allegedly running over a motorcyclist.
The accident took place around 11 pm near Kalpataru Complex on LBS Marg in Vikhroli (west). The victim Mohammed Qureshi (23) and his friend,who was riding pillion,were going to Vikhroli. The police said the BEST bus hit their vehicle from the rear. Qureshi lost control over the motorcycle and was thrown off it due to the impact.
The BEST bus driver,Ghanshyam Vishwakarma (30) fled the spot but was nabbed a few hours later.
On August 13,a 48-year-old man was allegedly run over by a BEST bus at Ghatkopar.
The police said it was not clear if the deceased committed suicide or was killed due to the bus drivers negligence. The deceased was identified as Sampat Ganpat Gaikwad,a resident of Amardeep Society in the Parksite.
