(File photo)Mumbai police on Sunday arrested an app-based cab driver and are looking for his two friends who allegedly molested a 28-year-old pilot inside the cab on June 19.
According to personnel of Ghatkopar police station, cab driver Sajid Gulhasan, 28, was arrested on the complaint of the pilot, who is also the wife of an Indian Navy officer.
Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 7, Rakesh Ola, said further investigation is on.
According to police, the complainant woman’s husband is awaiting allotment of a government quarter and temporarily lives in a Navy accommodation in Colaba, while the pilot lives in Ghatkopar. The couple generally meet in South Mumbai whenever they get time off their work.
According to the police complaint, on June 19, the complainant and her husband met in Fort area where they had dinner, after which she took an app-based cab to Ghatkopar around 10.45 pm.
Almost 25 minutes into the journey, the cab driver changed the route and allowed two other men board the cab. While one of them sat with the driver, the other one sat with the pilot.
“The man next to me held my hand while the other man threatened me to not shout… He touched me inappropriately and outraged my modesty. The driver did not interfere and kept driving,” the pilot stated in her statement in the FIR.
Later, when they saw police checking ahead, the driver stopped the car and the two men left the vehicle. The woman said she was scared, and could not notice the area as it was raining.
On reaching the destination, the woman questioned the driver about allowing the two men into the cab but he did not say anything. The pilot and her husband approached Ghatkopar police the next day and filed a complaint.
An FIR was filed on Saturday and Gulhasan was arrested on Sunday. He was produced in the court and was remanded to police custody for three days, a police source said.
