Chaubey kickboxes to victory

The main event for SFL 28 was the Lightweight category bout between Lucknow’s Amitesh Chaubey and Gaurav Gulliya from Delhi. In the hard-fought contest,Chaubey used his kickboxing skills as a trumpcard to overcome his opponent,eventually winning the bout via TKO.

In a Light-Heavyweight category tie,Sandeep Kumar from Delhi beat Hemant Wadekar from Indore through TKO. Amit Raj Kumar won his Featherweight tie against Pune’s Sameer Shaikh through a unanimous decision by the judges. In the last bout of the night,Mumbai’s Mohd Farhad beat Shillong’s Johny Rhntathiang via submission in their Bantamweight category match.

An international tie served as the main event for SFL 29,as India’s Bharat Khadare beat Egyptian Sami Amin through submission in their Featherweight tie.

In other SFL 29 matches,Mumbai’s Sumeet Khade beat Goan Nelson Paes through the rear naked choke submission in their Bantamweight match. In a lightweight tie,Jaipur’s Mukesh Gora won his bout by virtue of the TKO when he beat Delhi’s Vikas Singh Ruhil. In an all-international affair in the lightweight category,Khamitov Kuat from Kazakhstan faced Afghan Baz Muhammad,with the former winning the tie by virtue of a unanimous decision by the judges.

India clubbed with Pak,Iran,Afghanistan

India are pooled with Pakistan,Iran and Afghanistan in the lowest ranked Group E in the third and final leg of the HSBC Asian Rugby Sevens series for men,to be held at the Bombay Gymkhana here on October 12 and 13. After finishing 14th out of 16 competing teams last year in the three-leg series with 3 points,India are aiming to end up higher,said Rugby India president Pramod Khanna at the draw of the 16-team third leg on Tuesday.

CCI,ECC teams enter quarters

After Rajeev Adani upset Himanshu Jain in the opening singles,‘Rockets’ rallied to a 3-1 win over Dadar Club ‘Stalwarts’,with Nitin Dossa and N. Hemdev combining to win the second doubles tie and Rishabh Pandya making it 2-1 before Jain returned for the crucial fourth singles tie to avenge his earlier loss with a narrow 81-69 win over Adani.

In another pre-quarter-final,‘Bappachibum’ coasted to a 3-0 win over Matunga Gymkhana ‘Gentlemen.’ Farhad Tengra and Mahesh Jagdale won the opening doubles tie before Siddharth Shah snatched the second singles in an exciting black ball finish and Sunil Jain overcame a gritty

Shailesh Rao 105-82 in a tight third singles

Playing with a +50 handicap,Rao was under pressure to keep ‘Gentlemen’s hopes alive. But Jain,playing with a +30 handicap,potted brilliantly and marked his effort with a stunning blue cannon to take the match away.

Aaron D’Costa strikes 2 for Joseph’s

AARON D’Costa’s twin strikes helped St Joseph’s ‘B’,Mira Road pull off a hard-fought 2-1 win against St Michael’s ‘A’,Mahim,in their first round match of the 26th Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana (WCG) annual Inter-Parish Rink Football Tournament,at the WCG tennis courts. Keegan Dias netted the lone goal for the losing side.

Earlier,St Francis Xavier ‘A’,Vile Parle got the better of St Blaise ‘B’,Andheri by an identical 2-1 margin. Nicano Misquitta and Calvin K were on target for the Vile Parle Parish,while St Blaise reduced the deficit through Deepal Shah.

Namrata nets winner in Sea View’s triumph

SEA View Sports Club,Mumbai scored a solitary goal victory over SP Academy,Navi Mumbai to lift the Honourable Rajiv Bhau Satav All-India National Women’s Football Championship played at Basmath,Hingoli District,Maharashtra on Sunday.

In a keenly fought final played before a packed stadium of over 5000 fans,Sea View struck the only goal of the match in the 47th minute of play. A long clearance by defender Hemlata Fernandes was collected on the half line by Jenifer Rayar who weaved past a host of defenders and passed the ball to an unmarked Namrata Thakur on the left wing who struck a crisp left footer to the top of the net leaving SP Academy’s keeper no chance at all.

Jenifer Rayar was later judged the outstanding player and Namarat Thakur walked away with the Rs 3,000 cash award for striking the first goal.

Result: Sea View SC 1 (Namrata Thakur) bt SP Academy 0.
