Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Saturday praised Revenue Minister Narayan Rane saying he was a dynamic and efficient politician who does not keep his work pending.
Bhujbals remarks on Ranes 58th birthday, made in Marathi daily Prahaar founded by Rane, comes at a time when Bhujbals disenchantment with Chief Minister Ashok Chavan over his style of functioning is coming out in the open.
Bhujbal is sore at Chavan apparently for keeping files on important projects like the Mantralaya makeover and redevelopment of government servants colony at Bandra pending for long.
While the Public Works Department headed by Bhujbal had prepared a proposal for the Mantralaya project, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA),headed by Chavan,is said to be eyeing it.
Praising Rane,Bhujbal stated,Ranes confidence is very high. Implementing a decision taken or keeping a word is his nature¿ He is prompt in implementing a decision. He doesnt have the tendency of keeping work pending.
Bhujbal went down memory lane, when both he and Rane were in the Shiv Sena and said Rane was a self-made man who rose from humble beginnings and struggled his way up through hard work, courage and leadership qualities. He said when he (Bhujbal) was Mayor of Mumbai in 1985 and Rane was chairman of the BEST Committee, the latter had revealed his efficiency in handling administrative matters and left his mark on the BEST administration.
Deputy CM takes on Chief Minister Chavan
Chhagan Bhujbal has criticised Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for his remarks at an election meeting for the Navi Mumbai civic polls, which the Congress and the NCP are contesting separately. Chavan had said he was the Vaadhpi (one who serves food) of government funds and if Congress candidates were voted to power,he would serve more funds for local development.
In an NCP meeting later,Bhujbal said it was highly unbecoming of a chief minister to say such things,as he was supposed to look after citizens of the entire state and not just Congress voters.
