Commuters can use Google Maps to track real-time updates of BEST buses from today

The service, was rolled out in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday.

The app will show estimated travel times, indicate delays, and highlight real-time arrival status using color-coded indicators — green for buses running on time and red for delayed buses.

Calling this as a step forward for urban mobility, Fadnavis said, “This collaboration between BEST & Google Map is one of the important step towards strengthening of public transport service in Mumbai. This service will also benefit the BEST Undertaking. This will eliminate the uncertainty that bus passengers had about getting a bus.”

To access the new feature, users can open Google Maps on their Android or iOS device, input their destination, and tap the public transport icon.

The app will show route suggestions, live arrival times, and stop information. Users can also look up specific bus stops to determine which buses are arriving and when with real-time tracking for GPS-equipped vehicles.

Roli Agarwal, Google Maps Partnerships India Head, highlighted the larger vision of the initiative. “Providing comprehensive and accurate public transport information is a key priority for Google Maps, and we believe this integration will greatly enhance the commuting experience for the people of Mumbai,” she said.

BEST General Manager S V R. Srinivas said “The collaboration of BEST buses with the Google Map will help all Mumbaikar to plan their journey easily and conveniently as desired.”

The service is also available in Hindi and Marathi, besides English, and the user can switch between languages depending on their preference in the application or device settings.
