A 35-year-old man, struggling to become a TV actor, was arrested by the police while he was allegedly attempting to abduct his stepfather following a dispute over money on Tuesday evening.
The accused, identified as Mikhail Zhaveri, allegedly forced his stepfather into his car and sped towards Malabar Hills.
DCP (Zone 12) Ajit Patil said,Mikhail is presently unemployed and was trying his luck on the small screen. He had been staying with his mother Tara and stepfather Pradeep Sood in their apartment located near Film City. In his statement,Sood has said that despite getting Rs 1 lakh every month for his expenses,Mikhail used to get in frequent arguments with his parents over money. Fed up with the regular quarrels,Sood had asked Mikhail to leave the house.
Mikhail, however, demanded Rs 3 lakh from his stepfather for leaving the house. When Sood refused,Mikhail assaulted him and his mother, vandalised the house and switched on the cooking gas cylinder and threatened to set the house on fire.
After further argument,Mikhail took out an air gun and threatened Sood. He then forced him in his Maruti Swift car and sped towards Malabar Hill where Soods sister resides, said Patil. Apparently,Mikhail wanted to take Sood to his sisters place in a bid to involve her in pressurising him to give in to his demand.
However,Mikhails luck ran out when some police officials from the Malabar Hill police station, who were patrolling the area, saw his speeding car. Suspecting something fishy, the cops gave him a chase.
The officials managed to intercept the vehicle. And on bringing the occupants out,we got to know about the kidnap story and took Mikhail in custody, said an official from the Malabar Hill police station.
On knowing the story, the case was transferred back to Dindoshi as the kidnap began there.
We have recovered an air gun and a knife from Mikhail and charged him with attempt to murder, extortion and criminal intimidation. He was produced in a magistrate court where he has been remanded to police custody till Saturday, Patil said.
The Sood family was unavailable for comment.
