The Director General of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra,K Subramaniam,on Tuesday filed his report in the case of Chitra Salunkhe,a former law professor who alleged that she was victimised after blowing the whistle on a case involving a senior police officer cheating in an exam.
The report has been submitted in a sealed cover before a Division Bench of Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice A R Joshi, which has posted the matter for hearing on July 30. A different Bench of the High Court had previously come down heavily on the city police for inaction in investigating the case.
In an order dated February 27,the court had asked the CBI to take over the case. However,on April 4,the order was stayed. The court then directed that the case be investigated under the supervision of the Maharashtra DGP.
Salunkhe claimed that K L Bishnoi, who is currently serving as Inspector General (Protection of Civil Rights),cleared a law examination using fraudulent means. According to her,Bishnoi passed the examination in spite of remaining absent for a practical examination. She claimed,he colluded with the college principal I A Inamdar to pass the exam.
Salunkhe further alleged that seven IPS officers attempted to shield Bishnoi in the case including Jt CP,Nagpur Sanjay Saxena,Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Rakesh Maria and Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Vishwas Nangre Patil. The other officers are Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Brijesh Singh,Additional CP (Special Branch) Naval Bajaj and Additional Director Generals of Police Pankaj Gupta and Mohan Rathod. She claimed they did this by submitting false reports in favour of Bishnoi.
