In a further boost to industry and investments in Maharashtra, the state government has decided that once an investor or a potential unit has the 15 mandatory clearances, the administration will have to clear the project within seven days.
Once major issues have been resolved, projects will not be kept on hold and could be deemed to be approved.
In a late meeting on Friday attended by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, it was decided that while there would be no compromises on the 15 subjects where clearances from various departments are mandatory, once these are in place there should be no reason to hold back final permissions. For any industrial or any agro-industrial project, there are 15 critical aspects related to land, environmental clearance, clarity of finances, conformity with state labour laws, etc.
Maharashtra’s poor ranking in the World Bank’s report on ease of doing business in Indian states has led the government to crack the whip against any complacency. On Friday, Fadnavis chaired a meeting with the Department of Labour and Tourism to iron out any problems that were causing delays in issuing permissions.
At the end of the late meeting, Fadnavis said if permissions are not granted within seven days after the 15 clearances are received, such a project would be deemed as approved.
