Egg donor death: Three anaesthetists move High Court for relief

According to the petition the “follicular aspiration for egg retrieval” was conducted by Allahbadia on August 7, 2010, three days before Pandey died. The anesthetists — Dr Heta Kenia Chabra, Dr Kiritkumar Trivedi and Dr Yogen Bhatt — have stated in their plea they are facing “embarrassment and humiliation” because the police have been calling them to record their statements.

Claiming that there nothing on record to incriminate them, they have contended that their job is only to assist the gynaecologist or the IVF expert carrying out the procedure of egg retrieval and to ensure the patient is properly anesthetised.

Urging the court to direct the police not to take any coercive steps against them, the anaesthetists stated that Allahbadia and two other doctors from the clinic — Dr Gauri Sulatane (Gupta) and Dr Kaushal Kadam — had already secured anticipatory bail from a sessions court after they learnt that the police were likely to charge them for causing death by negligence.

Pandey allegedly received Rs 25,000 per ooycte donation. However, her family claims to have received no money from her. Her mother Pramila had also filed a complaint against Allahbadia before the Maharashtra Medical Council.
