A 19-year-old student of K J Somaiya College hanged herself at her home in Malad East on Thursday evening, hours after she learnt she had failed in three subjects in her third-semester engineering examination, police said.

Asmika Musani, a second-year engineering student, was found hanging by a dupatta from the ceiling fan at her home at 8 pm by her father Firoz Musani, the police said. “Asmika is suspected to have taken her life since she didn’t fare well in her exams,” Subhash Dafle, senior police inspector, Kurar police station, said. No suicide note was found. A case of accidental death has been registered at the Kurar police station.

“She was fine the previous day. If only she had shared with us what she was feeling, this tragedy would have been averted,” Musani said.
