European experts retrieve data,but no software to open it

After a team of European representatives of the company that manufactured parts of Merchant Vessel Nordlake arrived in Mumbai and retrieved the navigational data of the vessel,the police will have to wait longer to analyse the data as the software required to open the data is not available with them.

The Yellowgate police had sought help from European Company-Kelvin Hughes to retrieve the data and to assist them in ascertaining the cause of the collision.

According to Quaiser Khalid,deputy commissioner of police (port zone),the team of experts have retrieved the data but

are unable to open the records. The software that is needed to open the records is not available with us. We will have to wait until the software is brought, said Khalid.

Khalid added that the unique software is not readily available in the market and they will need to place a special order with the manufacturers.

The team of experts who have manufactured the equipment storing the navigational data would be in a better position to understand and decode it, said Khalid.

INS Vindhyagiri a frontline Naval frigate of the Indian Navy had collided with a merchant vessel MV Nordlake at around 4.36 pm near Sunk Rock Light House on January 31. The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Yellowgate police station against Merchant Vessel MV Nord Lake at the initiation of Lt. Commander Sunil Chaturvedi of the Indian Navy. The matter is also being probed by Director General of Shipping (DG) alongside the Board of Inquiry constituted by the Navy as well as the police.
